At this time of year it's always important to remember that we play in a hot, dry climate. In addition to making sure that the kids are properly hydrated, remember when playing on fields located in the great outdoors, critters may also be seeking refuge from the sun and heat, especially on fields located near unimproved open space. Thus, it would not hurt anything to give a bag or backpack a jolt before picking it up and checking the inside before reaching in to grab something, especially after the bag has been sitting out by itself for some period of time. Remember what we were told by our parents and try to avoid providing rides to unwanted hitchhikers, especially those who would have the unmitigated gall to bite or sting rather than offering to pay for gas. **AND DON'T FORGET: NO JEWELRY MAY BE WORN WHILE PLAYING SOCCER** This includes "Plugs"! And no taping of earrings (or Plugs)!!! If your child just had ears pierced, the choice is to remove the earrings and play, or don't remove the earrings and don't play. No exceptions!!! Again, please make sure that the kids are properly hydrated before, during and after practices and games. Please also remember that when you set up goals that they are properly anchored before letting the kids use them. Thanks

SAFETY IS THE MAIN CONCERN OF ALL AYSO OFFICIALS AND VOLUNTEERS. The safety and well-being of your children is very important to AYSO at the local and national level. There are a number of programs in place to make sure your children remain safe.

Safe Haven - Each volunteer (coach, assistant or team parent) must complete a Safe Haven course. This course is designed to team those in direct contact with the children how to keep them safe. Topics include: keeping players hydrated, Coaches can't leave the field until all children have been picked up, insurance issues, injury prevention and treatment, etc.

Safety Director - The league has a Safety Director whose responsibility it is to keep the children safe. If you are aware of a team that regularly practices rough play, or are aware of any situation where a child is in danger or at risk, you are urgently requested to contact the Safety Coordinator. Risks can include (but not limited to) Inappropriate behavior of a coach, a hazard on the field (pot holes, glass, etc.), Rough play on the field, out of control parents or coaches.

Child/Volunteer Protection Advocate - The league also has a Child/Volunteer Protection Advocate whose job it is to research each volunteer to make sure they are the right people to work with your children. If you see any inappropriate behavior on the part of a volunteer working with the children, please contact the Child/Volunteer Protection Advocate immediately.
